YOUNG MUSICIAN OF THE YEAR 2010

Following on from the success of the 2008 Young Musician of the Year, the Hinton St. George Festival Committee is pleased to announce the launch of this year’s competition, the Final of which will take place in the evening on Wednesday 9th June 2010 at St. George’s Church, Hinton St. George, as part of the 2010 Festival.

This year the Competition is divided into two groups:

Group 1:  Students who are 14 or under (on 9th June 2010) and who can play their instrument to a minimum standard of Grade 3 (although not necessarily having taken the exam).

Group 2:  Any student still in full-time secondary education (on 9th June 2010) and who can play their instrument to a minimum standard of Grade 5 (although not necessarily having taken the exam).
Candidates must live, or go to school, within a 9 mile radius of St. George’sChurch, Hinton St. George to be eligible and entrance is free.

The heat for Group 1  will take place on Tuesday 27th April at Maiden Beech School, Lyme Road, Crewkerne TA18 8HG at 4.00pm and the heat for Group 2 will take place on Thursday 29th. April at Wadham School, Yeovil Road, Crewkerne TA18 7NT at 4.00pm.  The piece of music selected by each entrant (which may be of any genre) should be no longer than 5 minutes.
Three students will be chosen from each heat to take part in the Final,  when 2 pieces of music will be required to be played, of no longer than 8 minutes in total.
The prizes for the competition, which have once again been kindly donated by the Hinton St. George Reading Room Trust, will be as follows:

Group 1:   1st - £100; 2nd - £60; 3rd - £40
Group 2:  1st - £125; 2nd - £75; 3rd - £50
